MISSION TRIP STORIES

 My name is Patrick Kamara, I am the founder of Safe Water for Sierra Leone. Safe Water for Sierra Leone is a nonprofit humanitarian aid organization dedicated to the provision of safe drinking water in the rural communities of Sierra Leone, West Africa. Safe Water for Sierra Leone was founded after the 2012 horrific cholera outbreak in Sierra Leone . The outbreak killed over 270 people and more than 19,000 sickened (WHO). Since 2013, Safe Water has constructed six boreholes water well in the rural and slum communities that are deprived of the access of safe drinking water.

On the other hand, Safe Water has constructed a brand new health care center for the people of Port Loko district. Since 2018, the Safe Water team has delivered substantial medical equipment and lifesaving products to the people of Sierra Leone. Many thanks to our donors, like Americares, Map International, and Johnson and Johnson.

During Safe Water recent mission trip to Sierra Leone on June 21 2024, a single mother Ms. Abibatu Jalloh (Picture above) came to our health care center in Port Loko City seeking help for her one year old son (Alusine Conteh) who appears faded, and malnourished. Alusine was born prematurely, Ms. Jalloh said. According to Ms. Jalloh, her husband passed away when she was two months pregnant with Alusine. Alusine was check-in, examined and assessed head to toe. There is no doctor with our team on this mission trip, and there are no prescription medication, only over the counter (OTC). Abibatu told our team that she was forced to be discharged at the port Loko government hospital after she ran out of money.

Safe Water team can do more than providing safe drinking water and handing over the counter medications if we have volunteer doctors, practitioners, and nurses onboard our mission trips. Our next Mission Trip is November 30, 2024. We are encouraging you to join us so we can treat more sick people, like Alusine.
